Dinner-debate with Sophie Vermeille, President of “Droit & Croissance”, at Villa Spicy

The LSE France alumni association was pleased to welcome Mrs Sophie Vermeille, founder and president of “Droit & Croissance”, for a dinner-debate on May 27th at Villa Spicy in Paris. Together with Mr Mathieu Luinaud, a graduate of Ecole Polytechnique and SciencesPo and a member of the same institute, she presented “Droit & Croissance’s” recent activities to promote a reform of French law that would take more consideration of economic analysis and thereby help France develop its many assets in a knowledge-based economy. Mrs Vermeille then presented a recent research on “Law and radical innovations” which was jointly prepared with “Fondapol”, a leading Paris-based political science think-tank. In this presentation, she argued that France’s institutions (both written and informal) were indeed ill suited to assist the creation of innovative businesses in France. In discussion with ALSE President Anthony O’Sullivan, who argued that France was not the only country concerned by this phenomenon and pointed at the need to have policy priorities, Sophie Vermeille reasoned that a wide reform of teaching and practice of law was necessary and pointed at European law and policies as a robust template for reform.

Sophie Vermeille’s presentation “Law and radical innovations” may be found in the Attachment section below.
